Well, here it is: our first official post on our shiny new Alderwood Manor Heritage Association blog.
The main goal of the blog is to be able to share with everyone the cool and interesting things that happen behind the scenes at AMHA. We have a lot of nifty goings-on, but unless you’re part of the group that’s actually working on a project, you might not know about it. With our new blog and updates to our site, hopefully we’ll be able to give everyone some insight into the inner workings of AMHA.
For example, I’m sure most people know that we’ve had items donated to our collection, but have you ever wondered what gets donated? Or have you ever wondered what happens to an item after it’s donated? With our behind-the-scenes blog, you’ll get to know more about the happenings of the Collections committee.
Another fun thing we’ve mentioned in past newsletters is our oral history archive. Ever wondered how we do those, or who’s been interviewed? Or, better yet, what they’ve said? We have a small but fascinating collection of interviews, and we’ll be posting more under the History tab as we get them transcribed.
We also envision some fun recurring features on our site and blog, like a Then and Now or mini history lessons about the area. Add to that reminders and recaps about AMHA events like our Cottage Chats and our quarterly programs at the Boys & Girls Club, and you’re going to feel like you’re at AMHA all the time, whether you live across the street or across the world!
As mentioned in the first blog post, if you have any ideas of what you’d like to see on our blog or website – whether a recurring feature, a one-time topic, or if you’d like to write something for us – let us know! You can send us ideas or comments in three ways: e-mail us at info@alderwood.org , use the Contact Us form on the right side of the page, or leave a comment below.
We’re really looking forward to this new project, and hope you all find something you like on it.
And don’t forget, you can also follow us on Twitter and Facebook!
